Coaches

Edmonton Aurora coaches work as a team to deliver their strengths to the athletes they coach.  Athletes in our competitive programs will receive coaching from many of the coaches listed below during the 2019-2020 Season:

Head Coach: Jennifer Parker   headcoach@aurorasynchro.org

Jennifer (Patterson) Parker was one of the first Aurora Synchro members when the Club started over 30 years ago.  Her mother, Loretta Patterson, has always been a synchro competitor (and remains so), and her older sister Lisa was a synchro swimmer too.  Under the direction and coaching of then Head Coach Leslie Sproule, Jennifer earned the status of Synchro Canada’s All Canadian Athlete in 1985.  While studying for her Bachelor of Science at the U of A, Jennifer obtained many coaching levels and placed several Aurora teams on the Provincial podium.  Upon graduating, Jennifer spent a year in Germany performing synchro professionally in Phantasialand.  Jennifer went on to win all categories at the 1996 World Masters Games in England.

Like many Aurora Alumni, Jennifer also had a very successful career in the corporate world.  Working for Schering-Plough Healthcare Products, Labatt Breweries of Canada, and Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee she excelled in her sales career, managing millions of dollars in product sales in the Alberta marketplace.  Jennifer also started several small businesses during her career, including 2 real estate companies, a heavy equipment company, and a plumbing company that she still owns with her husband Paul.

Coming back to Aurora Synchro was the result of her daughter Amy joining the Club.  In her role as Head Coach, Jennifer worked quickly to improve a team-oriented atmosphere, respect for the athletes and their parents, and more enjoyment in training.  Aurora Synchro has since posted some of its best results in recent history by placing members on the podium at the Provincial and National Levels (read more about Aurora athletes by clicking on the "News" tab).  One of Jennifer’s athletes recently described her by writing “you are very patient and you make hard things fun”.  This approach to coaching has helped place athletes on National and Provincial Teams in the past 5 seasons.  Her goal as Head Coach is to create a culture of teamwork, respect, and enjoyment of sport.  In 2016, Jennifer won the Suzanne Eon Trophy, an award presented by Synchro Canada to a coach that displays all around coaching abilities at the national Jr/Sr level.   Jennifer also volunteers her time representing the sport of artistic swimming with the City of Edmonton's Aquatic Users Committee.
